Thought for the day . . .

"Spend more, buy less.
Cheap stuff is usually cheap because of how it's made, what it's made of and who made it.  Buy better quality goods, less often . . ."

Happy Weekend!

Bainbridge Blues in Country Home . . .

We loved Country Home magazine
and were saddened when it was shuttered
along with a number of other wonderful publications -
domino, House & Garden, Met Home, Gourmet . . .

We were especially sorry because
Country Home had just completed a photo shoot
using several of Bainbridge Blues' fabrics.

As luck would have it, the magazine collapsed
one month before the article was to go to print!

BUT - there is a silver lining . . . read on . . .

Recently, Country Home released its second "special edition" issue featuring
favorite homes from previous issues . . . as well as lovely homes in new
locations - all presented in a slightly different format . . .

What a pleasant surprise to discover the very article featuring our fabrics
in this new issue . . . while we were browsing in a magazine stand at the airport!

So . . . we now know that in the lovely home of an antique dealer in Indiana
a settee is upholstered in our "timothy",
draped with a double sided, blanket stitched throw of "frances"
and a lumbar pillow in "dylan"!

The stylists for the photo shoot slip-covered the wingback chairs in "william"
and had throw pillows done  in "hattie".

We sincerely hope this stylish magazine comes back monthly someday!

Favorite Finds . . .

Bainbridge Blues fabrics are in the september / october
 issue of  Victoria magazine  . . .

The entire magazine is about  "Romantic England".
Charming villages  . . .  lovely gardens  . . .  quaint shops  . . .

and some of Victoria's  "favorite things"   . . .

this issue is perfect to curl up with on a lazy fall day!

not your mother's hemp . . .

I have to say that I don't normally love photo shoots
but this one was tons of fun . . .

mainly - because of this sweet girl you see here . . .

her name is "Lucy" . . .

. . . but lets back up a bit and start from the beginning . . .
as it all started out so innocently . . . so simply.

I was looking through boxes and boxes of old "Life" magazines

in the garage of my very cool and artsy friend Linda.

There were boxes of them from the 40's, 50's, and 60's on up . . .

really quite fascinating!!

And then I turned around . . .
and low and behold there was this very, very cool car . . .
a car that Linda and her husband lovingly restored over the years
and were getting ready to sell.

I simply love old cars - and this one was a beauty . . .
and on top of that
it was in my all time favorite cream . . .
the exact same cream as that of the textile line of
Bainbridge Blues!!

As I sat there with my mouth wide open . . . still in shock . . .
my mind started turning . . .
I think Linda knew exactly what I was thinking . . .

Yes - we did need to do a photo shoot with this beautiful vintage car
and the vintage inspired textiles from
Bainbridge Blues . . .

I told my two business partners Mudge and Fran
about this very cool car . . .
and they were equally excited!!

But there were other questions . . .

what was the story line . . . the catch phrase . . .
how to bring it all together . . .
how to relate it all to a wonderful fiber called hemp?
Then there was the location . . .
and of course - we definitely needed a model . . .
a Bainbridge Blues "it" girl.

We needed a girl that was not sad and glum
like you see in most magazines . . .
and she could not be too silly . . . or too stuffy . . .
in fact - she needed to be - just the opposite . . .

a girl who is cool, fresh, smart and happy . . .
one who knows where she is going and how to get there . . .

comfortable in her own skin and knows what she likes . . .

an updated version of a flower child from the 60's . . .
pure and simple - yet refined and classic . . .
with a bit of modern mixed in . . .
fresh and updated . . .
just like the fabrics themselves!

Well - as soon as Lucy's name came up . . .
we all just knew she would be perfect!
You see - she was truly - in a nut shell . . .
all of those things and more!!

What we didn't know at that moment . . .
was how well she worked in front of the camera.
Well let me tell you . . .
every photo turned out better than the one before!!
She was so much fun to work with . . .

and Michael Jardine . . .
our amazing go-to photographer
took some amazing photos of her and the fabrics that day!!

I have to say that it was not easy
to choose just one!!!

and in the end . . .
it all came together quite easily

and yes - it was the most fun photo shoot
I have ever been a part of!!

It was full of vintage inspiration . . .
along with a modern sensibility
and a glimpse
into what our fabrics are all about.

and in the end . . . it looked like this . . .

which is exactly what we were after . . .

a bit of vintage . . . a bit of classic . . .
a look at the past . . . and a look into the future . . .

"Buy classic, buy quality, buy less, live simply, live well . . ."

Fran came up with the above slogan a few years back
and I have to say that . . .
I love it more each and every day!!

and - one last little secret . . .

our sweet and very smart
Bainbridge Blues' "it" girl - Lucy
well . . . she has never done a photo shoot before!
. . . now that is amazing!!!

Thank you Lucy!!
We love everything about you . . .

. . . both inside and out!!

. . . but then again - we have all felt that way . . .
for a very, very long time!! :)

we didn't ask her to . . . but . . .

yes . . . she can do a very good pout!!
(one of the best that I have ever seen!!)

. . . and to our amazing photographer
Micheal Jardine
for capturing these fantastic photos!
We couldn't do this without you!!!
(You can see more of Michaels photography - here)

. . . and last but most definitely not least
a big "thank you" to my dear friend Linda
for letting us use her amazing car that day
and more importantly . . .
for your friendship,
your enthusiasm, and for always
inspiring me when I need it most!! :)

xoxo - liz . . . and fran and mudge too!!

Refined Finishes Paints for Bainbridge Blues . . .

Our dear friend Pat Rushon has developed a new interior paint line . . .

We collaborated so that her initial color collection
coordinates specifically with our fabrics!

Pat has the "color-eye" of an artist and the skill that can only come
from years of work within the industry . . .

She understands how warm, clear colors or unusual finishes
can completely transform a space . . .

Recently one of us had some interior walls redone with
Refined Finishes' Light Honey from the Bainbridge Blues collection.
The painter loved working with it . . . great coverage . . .
and no fumes because the Refined Finishes paints are no-VOC.

We have used them in a number of our showrooms
and in photo shoots . . .

We feel so lucky to be part of this wonderful project
from the very beginning and wish her the best of luck!

Please contact Pat Rushon directly at Refined Finishes
for more information or to order swatches or paint.

We have worked with Pat on some additional color palettes that our textiles
will have in future collections . . . just to give you a glimpse into the future.

So . . . as Pat would say, "Choose a color and have some fun!"

frances . . .

We think this chair looks wonderful in our
"frances" fabric  . . .
It is always heartening to see beloved family pieces or furniture
picked up at garage sales given a new lease on life - the ultimate in
"environmentally friendly" design . . .

If only those old pieces could talk!

Below . . . taken from the same incredible remodel . . .
These photos were sent to us by architect Kim Clements
of JAS / Design Build here in Seattle.

a few more pictures below of "frances" . . .
from "The Dixon Group" at the Seattle Design Center . . .

Do you have a wonderful piece in your life that needs recovering?

Tour of Architects - a Bainbridge aesthetic

The . . .
Tour of Architects

is coming to Bainbridge Island this weekend!
Two of the projects on tour are sponsored by our friends, and very talented couple,
Trina and Marc LaRoche.

Here is a glimpse of the "Seaborn House" designed by Marc's firm . . .
Marc LaRoche - Architects.

It is fitting that it fits seamlessly into its natural, sun-filled surroundings . . .

Trina is a wonderful and very talented interior designer! We love her ability to successfully mix
modern elements with stylish Pacific Northwest details here in a such a warm
and approachable manner . . .

The tour will be a lot of fun and donations go to support three local organizations
(Bainbridge Island Performing Arts, Housing Resources and Helpline House).

Hope to see you there . . .

enjoy!!

Bainbridge Island . . .

We are fortunate to live and work on a beautiful little island . . .

in the Puget Sound . . .

a stepping stone linking Seattle . . .

and the lush Olympic Peninsula with its snow capped mountains . . .

verdant rain forests . . .

. . . and salmon streams.

Ours is a unique blend . . .

of city and rural cultures . . .

sensitive to our environment . . .

and holding family ties and traditions dear.

Our island has provided the inspiration for the colors and textures in the patterns and weaves of our textiles.

Stop by often for a visit to our little piece of heaven!
